“When you stop playing for the short-term gratification and start appreciating the processes you are going through in life, the magic will happen.”

this is how you when the long game on your journey to achieving your own greater destiny purpose and future

Life is all about processes, seasons and phases. We want things to happen instantly but that is simply not the way things work generally when it comes to self-improvement. I believe that the reason so many people fail at their individual endeavors is simply because they have mismanaged their own expectations about the journey. The price of evolution has been an arduous one of repetitive experience that spurns growth in the most appropriate directions relative to experience and necessity.

Do you get a degree overnight?

Do you learn a martial art overnight?

Do you attain the body of your dreams overnight?

Is anything worth having in holding onto really something that you can attain overnight?

Why would you think that your journey to greatness would be any different?

So many people begin to fight for what they want but forget to respect the process and so they die in the Death Valley of failure and believe that what they wanted was not for them. In all actuality, missing the mark and losing many times is not failure but a necessary part of your evolution and transcendence. You must learn how not to do what it is you want to do in order to do what it is you want correctly and maintain those results… Failure is necessary and productive so long as the individual has the character to perceive it that way. This is why I say sometimes you win and sometimes you learn.

What kills us however is our focus and the story we tell ourselves in our head on the journey. How does the boxer continued to fight while being punched in the face constantly? He is very deliberate about his focus, his conversation with himself in his mind is positive and he’s properly managed his expectations. He does not step into the ring not expecting to get hit, therefore when he is hit he’s able to accept it, learn from it and do his best to adjust so he can strike again and avoid getting hit next time. The boxer knows when he steps into the ring that he is in for what could be the fight of his life and he may even be willing to give his life on that day for what he wants to achieve for him self in that battle.

If a weight lifter pays too much attention to short-term results he will be far to discouraged to continue going to the gym after a few days of working out and seeing nothing… As ridiculous as that sounds, it happens to so many people every year. Your journey to achieving your goals in life is just like this.

If you are stepping into this New Year and going after your goals without respecting the reality that your path to that goal is probably going to be an arduous journey that may take time and will hurt, then you may be setting yourself up for failure. On the other hand if you are stepping into your journey this year with the mindset of knowing that you are dedicated to work as hard as you can and as long as you can to learn everything you need to learn from the journey. Then your head is much more in the right spot because the truth is simply that in life we can always have more as long as we can become more, so the key than is all about who you are becoming. The question is how long did it take you to become the person you are now? If it took you that long to become who you are than what makes you think you can change everything overnight? I say all of that to illuminat the truth about how consistent you will need to be and how badly you must want change. The sooner you start the sooner you will finish but if you never start, you will never get there.

It is actually literally the struggle that makes you strong enough to become the person to get the results you set out to get.

Becoming is a process and when you learn to appreciate that process rather than paying attention to short-term results than you will find the purpose in the pain and unlock the potential that is available to you in every one of life’s arduous sets of circumstances.
