⚜️At times as executive protection professionals, you will find yourself in situations where you’re with principals who have kids. You might think that it’s good equity to be attached to the family, and get friendly with the kids, but these things can easily backfire.

Never forget that billionaires have been enduring years of flattery with many different types of people looking for ways to endear themselves to them and their families. Do not look for shortcuts within any of the social circles that are around them to gain the type of relationship you may dream of with your principles. It is seductive to have powerful people like you but never forget your function and always aim to build the equity of your relationship upon your work product only. If you can do this then you will ultimately have the healthiest relationship with the people who have hired you that you can ask for. Avoid social pitfalls and build the foundation of your relationship the right way so that when you’re challenged it will not be shaken.

Familiarity breeds contempt and that saying has been around for a long time for a good reason. Be the security agent they hired, not the stepdad they might already have or don’t even want. I completely understand how agents fall into the trap but I’m here to tell you that it is a pitfall.
