One of the reasons we get to drops early is not only to proof the routes and make contact with POC‘s but also to conduct our own counter-surveillance. Make sure your relationships in the environment are good. Stay off the radar that will draw bad attention to your principals.

Take a look around very carefully and get acclimated to the environment. Look for the baseline of behavior, who is supposed to be there, who’s not supposed to be there and who is watching you. Identify threats and persons of interest or suspicious vehicles before the VIPs come through. Every moment counts, preparation is key and make sure your awareness expands out past the logistics of your detail.
